Miraculous Ladybug - The black cat and ladybug - AP Art Project #1

First piece I've done (2020) for AP Art following my concentration study theme of animals through the media. Each piece references a different movie, show, comic, etc. through animal representation. This one was based on the show Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Chat Noir.

Process: Several layers used to show the light reflecting off the black fur, whiskers, and eyes, sections of fur detailing done strand by strand. Photo references used for the ladybug. The entire piece was completed on an iPhone SE with a 4” screen, sketched, lined, and painted with my finger. Scaled up on a computer. Focus was brought from a full body to the chest and up. Many backgrounds were considered but I ultimately decided on a simple gradient to bring focus onto the cat while complimenting it’s eyes. This helps bring more attention to the fur detailing of the face and body.
